BECOME A MENTOR

Becoming a WiSE mentor at UBC Okanagan is a transformative opportunity to inspire and guide the next generation of women in STEM. As a mentor, you’ll not only share your expertise and experiences but also help young women navigate the challenges of their academic and professional journeys.

By fostering meaningful connections and providing valuable support, you contribute to a culture of empowerment and success. Mentoring through WiSE allows you to refine your leadership skills, expand your network, and make a lasting impact on the future of women in science and engineering.

  • Mentees and mentors will meet approximately 1hr/month (online or in-person) over the course of 8 months
  • Mentors and mentees must participate in four 2 hour events at the university in October, November, January and March (total 8 hours) 
  • Mentors will spend 15-20 minutes completing one Zoom/phone interview and two online surveys (total 1 hour) 
  • Mentees and mentors who are selected to participate will need to review our resources page to understand program expectations, timelines, and additional tips to get the most out of the mentoring program
  • Mentees and mentors will be asked to attend ALL events including information sessions, orientation, and professional development events
  • Mentees and mentors participating in the WiSE Mentoring Program MUST participate in a longitudinal evaluation research project and complete necessary surveys and interviews/focus groups
  • Mentees and mentors will then meet approximately 1hr/month (online or in-person) over the course of 8 months
