Background

The first year of the Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) Mentoring Program at the Okanagan Campus of The University of British Columbia will begin in September 2011. The WiSE Mentoring Program emerged from the Women in Science Workshops held annually since 2005. In February 2011, we received funding from Westcoast Women in Engineering, Science and Technology (WWEST) to develop a Mentoring Program during the summer of 2011. In addition, we will also scientifically evaluate the usefulness of the mentoring program by involving all mentors and mentees in a longitudinal study that will examine how the formal mentoring program contributes to young women’s academic success and their transition into professional careers or graduate studies.
